THE SHOW

When the sea shapes life and hope is sown in the land, human survival emerges with honesty and dedication. In places like Arona, where the landscape reflects the interplay between the arid south and the proximity of the ocean, humble men and women carefully tend to their daily sustenance, ensuring that nature's generosity and fertility endure as a legacy for future generations.

The hands of men and women weave a story between their fingers, a bridge of wicker and rope… and of cane… and of memory. These hands were a source of many joys; they were the bearers of ideas, the creators of marvelous crafts. With them they molded life and clay, carved wood… With them they forged iron, mended wounds, nets and roses, worked leather and stone.

With their hands they harvested food from the sea: fish and salt, so integral to the coastal identity of southern Tenerife. With them they scattered seeds, watered and plowed the dry land, taming a demanding territory like the Canary Islands. Joining their hands they prayed for rain… and honored the earth with their sweat, bringing in the harvest together.

The hands of the men and women of Arona and the Canary Islands are creative hands: they make yesterday into tomorrow and tomorrow into today.

PRIZE

"BEST SOUND SPACE"

Tarasca's award-winning soundscape is inspired by the traditional folklore of the Canary Islands. It comprises a series of compositions conceived from a cinematic, visual, and sensory perspective, allowing the listener to move through a timeless space; memories, longings, hopes, and euphoria intertwine with the melodies that accompany the people of the Canary Islands on their journey.

It also reflects individual stories, near or far, that travel in the form of melodies from other towns: brothers, grandparents, families from other lands who make the Canary land their own.

The music performed in Tarasca aims to express the emotion that men and women experience when they are at a loss for words…

THE HOME

Inside homes, where time seems to slow down, hands hold the invisible. Bread is kneaded, clothes are mended, cleaning is done, care is taken, life is ordered. These are silent, repeated, almost secret gestures that build home and shelter. Within them dwells a form of love that makes no noise, yet sustains the world.

THE EARTH

The land demands to be heard. Under the southern sun, amidst open furrows and patience, hands learn to wait. Sowing is done with faith, watering with effort, and harvesting with gratitude. Each fruit is the result of an ancient alliance between humankind and the landscape. In the Canary Islands, cultivating the land is also about resisting it, understanding it, and honoring it.

THE SEA

The sea is not owned, it is respected. On its shore, hands prepare nets, repair boats, read the wind. Going out to sea is an act of trust, returning, an act of celebration. The fish, the salt, the constant murmur of the water are part of a shared memory. In the Canary Islands, the sea is not a border: it is a path, sustenance, and destiny.
